All students are required to have a band instrument for the first week of school. Renting is recommended for all students in Grade 5 and 6. Families may choose to purchase if students continue in the band program past Grade 6. All instruments are rented from a music store except for euphonium and tuba (see below). No instruments are available from ESMS.

Parents/guardians are responsible for any additional supplies for instruments. Please see the attached info above regarding individual instrument requirements.
Euphonium and tuba players must purchase their own mouthpiece from a music store as well as pay a user fee of $175 for school-owned instruments. Once this fee is paid, students receive one instrument to keep at home for practice and have one to use in the classroom. For new students, home instruments stay at school until First Note Night is over. The mouthpiece goes home for practice and is brought back to school for all band classes.
Students playing the following instruments are also required to purchase their own mouthpiece:
- French horn
- tenor saxophone
- bari saxophone
- bass clarinet
*The $175 user fee also applies to the above-listed instruments.
Percussionists pay a user fee of $50 each year and receive a pair of snare drum sticks and xylophone mallets the first year and one set of sticks or mallets in subsequent years.
Instruments need to be cleaned and maintenance-checked each year a student is in band. With use, instruments need screws and springs adjusted, pads replaced under keys, slides un-stuck, and an ultrasonic cleaning to perform their best. Be sure to get this taken care of to ensure your child has a successful year!
*All user fees can be paid by cash or cheque (to ESMS). Please pay Ms. Lansky directly (not homeroom teachers) OR use the online pay option through the ESMS website.
